Jean & Michael - March 20th!

One could not have asked for better weather on the first day of spring for Jean & Micheal's March 20 Wedding at The Woodmark Hotel! The sun was shinning, birds were chirping and the flowering trees were in full bloom!
Jean & Michael flew in from California Friday afternoon to news that they would be able to hold their ceremony outside the next day. It took some convincing, but their photographer, Bob Gassen of Humanature Photography, was able to convince them that this is something of a rarity in the Pacific Northwest in March and they must not miss the opportunity! As was predicted, the weather on Saturday was perfect! The day began with hair and makeup followed by family photos outside in the sun! Later that afternoon friends and family gathered for an intimate ceremony overlooking the marina. There was laughter and tears shed throughout the ceremony officiated by Len Smolen. Jean "aka Dancing Machine" and Michael entered their reception ready for a good time! Guests enjoyed cocktails and appetizers while writing down their favorite memories and wishes for the newlyweds. As the sun began to set dinner was served followed by toasts. One could not help but shed a tear as toasters remembered loved ones who were not in attendance and shared stories about how the two met and have formed an everlasting love! The celebration continued with ice cream, and a choreographed Rumba.
EventSourceNW kept the guest on their feet until the night's end! Congratulations Jean and Michael!

Thank you to all of their vendors who made the day possible!

Birthday Massage

If you are unable to get a hold of me today, it's because I am celebrating my birthday at my favorite massage place, A New Beginning Massage!
While it may not necessarily be at this location, it is my destination for relaxation while in Seattle! I think if I were to win the lotto I would hire A New Beginning Massage to come to my home and give me a daily massage...hey, it could happen!

Bridal Shower Wine Party Idea!

The sun is shining, the days are getting longer and summer weddings are just around the corner. It must be time to plan your bridal shower! In this month's posting, Cheri Walters shares her tips on combining wine with a bridal shower.

Bridal showers have traditionally been a time for playing fun games inspired to surround the bride-to-be with love. Why not incorporate wine into the mix?One game I recommend is a blind tasting. This can be a ton of fun, add excitement to the party, and can be enjoyed by everyone regardless of their wine experience. Simply provide 4 or more bottles of different types of wine*. Depending on the size of your party it can be more.

To provide these wines, you can have each guest bring their own bottle or, as the host, provide all the wine. Then, before the guests have a chance to see any of the wine labels, place a bag around each bottle and neatly tape up the top so there’s no peaking. Of course, if each guest has brought their own they should arrive with the bottle already hidden in a bag.

Once all wines are accounted for, write a designated number on each bag so that guests will then be able to keep track of which ones they’ve tried. I recommend having one person do this without anyone else seeing. This way if you’ve brought a wine to the party you won’t know which one is yours.

Throughout the party your guests are welcome to try the wines and write down their thoughts, scoring each wine on a ten point scale- 10 being excellent.

I have found that this part of the game sparks great conversations!

Once everyone has had a chance to taste through the wines, tally up the scores for each wine, and the highest score wins. This is when the great reveal happens and each wine is taken out of its bag for everyone to see. If each guest has provided a wine, a fun thing to do is give a prize to the person who brought the winning entry.

*Moderation: Some things to keep in mind… I always like to have ‘spittoons’, aka spit buckets, easily accessible for guests so that if someone wants to taste the wine in moderation, they have the option to pour out extra wine from their glass. Champagne ice buckets are classy and will do the trick. There is no shame in pouring out wine in order to consume in moderation- wine geeks do it all the time.

For a variation on this game, try providing wines by all female winemakers. This adds a fun spin to the game and your guests learn a thing or two about women in the wine world. There is even a Facebook fan page for female wine makers to help when purchasing the wines.

If you would like to go beyond the ordinary with your bridal shower contact Pink Blossom Events and Cheri. We will help break the ice and create a fun and approachable wine tasting experience tailored to your needs. We’ll take care of the planning and the wine. All you have to do is show up, relax and raise your glass in celebration!

St. Patrick's Day Pairing!

To kick off the St. Patrick's Day Celebration this week, Cheri Walters, gives us tips on wines you you can elegantly pair with traditional Irish fare and have fun doing it!

Here are three classic Irish dishes along with wines that deliciously complement them:
Corned Beef and Cabbage has long been a favorite on St. Patrick’s Day. Since this dish is traditionally boiled, and therefore on the delicate side, bold reds might overpower. If the beef were roasted, perhaps a zinfandel or syrah might work to support its resulting depth of flavor. However, a pinot noir from Sonoma would do well in bringing acidity to the dish while complimenting it with subtle nuances and earthy flavors.

• Traditional Shepherd's Pie is made with ground lamb, but the Americanized recipe served on Saint Patrick's Day tends to substitute ground beef. Zinfandels are a tried and true partner for Shepherd's Pie because of the wine’s bold raspberry fruit flavors. A smoky Syrah, however, can also be an exceptional companion for the creamy dish.

• Although Fish ‘n Chips originated in England, it is also quite popular with the Irish. The Irish prepare the chips in the thick steak fry style, and like enthusiasts in other countries, eat the meal with salt and malt vinegar. Try an Australian Riesling with this one! The lemony-citrusy qualities of Riesling make it delicate enough to go with the delicateness of the fish. The mouthwatering raciness of an Australian Riesling cuts through the oily richness and heaviness of the battered fish and greasy chips, refreshing your palate with each sip. Think of it as being the equivalent of squeezing a freshly cut lemon on the dish.

With all that said, the hearty nature of Irish food and the jovial spirit of the holiday may create in you a thirst for bubbly. A light and crisp sparkling white wine will certainly lift your spirits and fit the mood of the day. Enjoy bubbles from morning till night if you so desire… sparking goes with just about everything!

Later this month Cheri will speak on wines to serve at a Bridal Shower! To learn more about wine, visit Cheri at CheriWalters.com !

Gorilla Bites & Nickel Images

An afternoon of good food and conversation will always brighten my day! I met Rachel of Nickel Images at Gorilla Bites in downtown Snohomish to discover what clients are raving about.
Rachel and her husband Matt, recently moved back home from Atlanta and are excited to continue their business, Nickel Images, in the Seattle area. They are enthusiastic about love and exposing the beauty of relationships through their photographs. Their slogan, "fall in love with your photographers," emphasizes their desire to capture "Boy & Girl" and "Mrs. & Mrs." Rachel and Matt's passion of shooting couples in love is contagious. I hope you are able to experience this same passion with them!
During our visit we met with owner, Anne Dottai, of Gorilla Bits who introduced us to her restaurant. Anne is excited to share her restaurant to the community as she knows how difficult it can be to find somewhere to eat when you have multiple food allergy issues. Gorilla Bites specializes in organic and natural sandwiches, burgers, soups, salads, and a variety of vegan options. In addition to serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, Gorilla Bites is the perfect location for a rehearsal dinner, business meeting or an off site event when you are looking for a healthy and allergy free meal!

Seattle Tours

The more venues I tour, the more I realize that there truly is a venue specialized for everyone! This past week I had the opportunity to visit a few more of these unique venues right in our backyard!

Piatti Ristorante & Bar- University Village
Last week Piatti invited me out to lunch and I couldn't turn down the invite for an authentic Italian meal! As their event coordinator introduced me to their restaurant I savored every bite of my meal. Not sure if it was the fresh home baked bread or my soup, but it sure hit the spot! Piatti not only serves a delicious menu but is available for private dinning and events. The restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor seating making it an ideal spot for a smaller event. I'm thinking this is the perfect location for rehearsal dinners and intimate social parties!

Seattle Aquarium
Touring the Seattle Aquarium reminded me of how much fun it is to spend a day looking at life under the sea. From the octopus to the fish, I could have stayed all day! As you can imagine being an event planner, my mind was racing with all types of events you could hold at the Aquarium. A wedding, birthday party, corporate event, progressive dinner, my mind is still buzzing with ideas! There is even a special outdoor area not well known around Seattle for hosting a one of a kind ceremony or event! If the tour wasn't enough, I got to sample some of the food at the Aquarium which I must say is not what you would expect from an Aquarium!

To view additional photos of Aquarium Events visit their photo gallery or blog!

Four Seasons
Step into the Four Seasons Hotel Seattle and you are in the center of elegance and first class service. Walking through the hotel, you will soon discover why Institutional Investor rated Four Season Hotel Seattle as the 28th best hotel in the world and best hotel in Seattle! Your wedding will be the talk of the town if hosted here, just view some of the photos from past weddings at Four Seasons!

The Edgwater
The Edgewater is Seattle’s only waterfront hotel and iconic urban retreat. It is the perfect mix of the classic Pacific Northwest look, yet still presents the ultimate elegance sought after for an event. Their Olympic Ballroom features floor to ceiling windows allowing your guests panoramic views of the sound. The intimate Terrace Room warms the heart with a flickering fireplace and sunny outdoor deck. Then there is the private dining room in The Edgewater's Restaurant, Six Seven. While touring the hotel I made sure not to miss a chance to step inside the famous Beatles Suite where the Beatles once stayed and were caught fishing out of the hotel room!

Shilshole Bay Beach Club
The Shilshole Bay Beach Club gives the impression that you have been transported away from Seattle to a tropical location minus the balmy weather! Located on the Ballard waterfront, this venue offers views from every room with the cool breezes and magnificent sunsets. The Shilshole Bay Beach Club offers two rooms that may be rented together or individually with attached waterfront patio space.
Radar Lake
Thirty six years. That's how long this man made lake has been in our backyards without most of us knowing about it. This famous lake, nestled in the foothills of Redmond, set the wheels in motion for what water skiing has become today. When I drove into the private gated property, I couldn't help but wonder how this 120 acre property could be so hidden in the Seattle area? They have been hosting skiing events ever since its beginning but are just starting to push into the event industry. From corporate events to weddings this venue has it all. Or if you are looking for a place to rent a private lake for the day and practice your water skiing, this is the place! Feel like staying the night? Why not park your RV or pitch a tent or stay in their cabin? I feel summer calling my name here!

On February 25, guests at the Pan Pacific Hotel were treated to not just an open house, but a mock wedding ceremony and reception. The day which was captured by Barbie Hull Photography and Edit 1 Media began with hair and makeup at nearby Salon Azur for the wedding party! Once changed into their wedding attire, gown donated by La Belle Elaine's, tuxes donated by Brocklind's Formal Wear, the bride and groom celebrated by jumping on the bed along with a pillow fight to get out the pre-wedding jitters! As guests arrived at the Pan Pacific Hotel, they checked in, picked up a goody bag full of surprises... ...were greeted by Al B. Blissful (Father of Bride) and Constance Lee Blissful (Mother of Bride)... ...then were ushered into the Cascade Room for the ceremony decorated by Aria Style and music by Bamboo Beats. When the ceremony got underway, one could not help but laugh as the officiant related a wedding to owning a restaurant. As well as watching the Groom, Justin Thyme, read his vows that were written on his arm, to his Bride, Eva Blissful. Once the ceremony ended the newlyweds entered the reception to great their guests! The reception was like no other wedding reception. From the food by Seastar Restaurant to an spa treatments by Vida Spa, a detail was not overlooked. Guests mingled and got a chance to talk to a handful of Seattle's top wedding vendors. To cap off the night a raffle was held with prizes from NW Totem Cellars and Hollywood Hill Vineyards wines to a wedding veil from La Belle Elaine's! Thank you to Events on the Edge for an incredibly entertaining evening!

Mariah's Wish!

Planning events is a passion of mine, but getting the opportunity to make a difference in another person's life is what makes it all worthwhile! This winter, through Make-A-Wish, I had the opportunity to work with Mariah and her family to grant their wish of a hot tub. While Mariah was unable to verbally say what the hot tub meant to her, you could see it in her smile and hear it in her laughter the evening we celebrated the completion of her wish!
Mariah with her Make-A-Wish Granters!
Swimming with her mom and siblings! She could not have been happier! ...and a hot tub cake to cap off the evening!

Thank you to all of the companies who donated their time, services and of course the hot tub! Kenmar Water Truck Services, Pizza Palace, Free Cakes for Kids and Marquis Spas!
