A New Pairing - Pink Blossom Events and Sommelier Cheri Walters!

Do you often find yourself planning an event or party and wishing you had someone to speak to about the wine selection? Pink Blossom Events is proud to announce that we are now partnered with, International Wine Sommelier, Cheri Walters. From weddings to wine tasting events, we are available for all of your event needs! Each month Cheri will be featured on Pink Blossom Events Blog answering some of the most common questions associated with wines and events. And who knows, she may even stop by in between!

With stories of proposals and engagements buzzing around town, I wanted to focus our first blog posting which will help you narrow down the wine focus. For this blog posting, I thought I would stick to one of my favorite engagement party ideas, a Champagne and Dessert party! What better way to celebrate than with some bubbly and chocolate!

When I asked Cheri to help us with the champagne selection, she couldn’ on what to serve at an Engagement Party. From backyard bbq’s to formal dinners, there is no protocol to mark the event. The first step in planning any event is to pick a themet help but smile! Here is Cheri’s advice on what type of champagnes you should choose…

As a wine geek, I can’t help but get excited about the possibilities for engagement party wine choices! And what engagement party would be complete without a little bubbly? There is of course the one true classic-Champagne, which, of course, only the bubbly from this region can claim the ‘Champagne’ title and costs a bit extra. However, there are sparkling wines from around the world that are at once affordable and sexy. Let’s take a look…

Sparkling wines from South Africa have recently popped onto the scene with the Graham Beck Brut NV selected by Michelle Obama for President Obama’s acceptance speech. This truly affordable wine tastes of lemon pith, almond skin, hazelnut and mineral on the finish.

Another red-hot choice is to go with a sparkling dry rosé. Well-made rosés, both still and sparkling, have gained popularity in the past few years. Not only do they often match the color and flavors of celebrations, rosés are a catalyst for uplifting emotions. For an affordable choice try sparkling rosés from Burgundy, Spain and Bordeaux. I particularly like the Jaillance Cremant de Bordeaux Brut NV . The Jaillance is crisp, dry (meaning no sugar), and entices with raspberry and pomegranate. Trust me, it’s mouth-watering goodness!

If money is no object for you, look for Grower Champagne. They are the new and thrilling trend from this region where the grapes receive the upmost attention and care from the vineyard through production. Think of Grower Champagne as being as sexy as the first night on your Honeymoon…

One of my favorites is the Pierre Peters Brut NV . This Grower Champagne tastes of brioche, almond skin and has a voluptuous mouth feel. Serve extra chilled and it will surely make you swoon!

If you want to add a touch of sweetness try a Moscato D’Asti from Northern Italy. This is a slightly sweet, effervescent wine that delicately coats your palette with tastes of melon, apricot, white flowers and peach, and pairs brilliantly with chocolate and fruit. If you’ve never tried this combo before I suggest you run out to your local wine shop now, ask for a Moscato D’Asti (they’re inexpensive and pack a lot of goodness!), get your chocolate on and spend some quality time with your fiancé. Not a bad idea for an engagement party warm-up, eh?

So with all these sparkling wines, what to choose? Now is the time to pick the theme of your party, and from there you can choose bubbly that not only complements the foods you will serve, but the colors and mood as well. To find out more about our new sommelier, check Cheri out at cheriwalters.com . We are looking forward to helping you plan your next event!

Stay tuned next month when we feature wines to serve at your bridal shower!

Cheers!

Date Idea

In the spirit of Valentine's Day, here is a date idea from one of my May brides.

"Our favorite Seattle area date is to go to Mukilteo beach on a clear day (even in winter) and search for beach glass then sit on the deck at The Tin Fish eating fish tacos and enjoying a corona or two..."

Happy Valentine's Day!

Wedding Insurance: Tips For Buying Online

The other day I received an email from Wedding Protector Plan with tips on buying wedding insurance online. I thought I would share this with all of you as these tips can help determine which companies to consider in the process.
~
An insurance company's financial strength is an important consideration when choosing a policy.
Find out the company rating through a well-known system, such as A.M. Best. A good rating assures you that the company is solid and financially secure. An "A" (Excellent) rating or better is highly recommended.
~

Brick and Mortar Building: It is good to have a policy that has an actual office as well as a "virtual office".
Companies that offer their products both online and offline in a traditional way brings much more credibility. Many of these brick and mortar companies that have expanded into e-commerce have the added advantage of an established distribution channel of quality insurance agents.
~

A Licensed Insurance Agent: When looking for online insurance quotes many people may not understand the insurance product and might end up choosing something that will not insure them properly. This can have serious ramifications. Consulting a licensed agent may eliminate this problem.
~

Understanding the Difference in Policies Available: All policies may look the same on the surface but it is very important to understand the terms and conditions of the policy. There may be huge differences in actual coverage due to deductibles and special wording of policies.
~
Not realizing a policy has hidden charges and high deductibles and/or separate deductibles for each coverage can be a very costly mistake.
~
Claims Office 24/7: It is important that you are able to discuss a claim at any time. Accidents do not always happen during regular business hours (especially for events) and it is important to have trained professionals available the moment you need them.
~
No matter what source you go to get your insurance, you should always choose insurance with a secure and trusted insurance company and has proven customer service. Also you should fully understand the policy before you go ahead and sign it.
