Christy & Kelley - Oahu Wedding - Sept. 4, 2010

As the sun began to rise on the morning of September 4 the only worry was the passing of clouds in the morning sky. Those worries soon vanished as Christy and Kelley, along with their bridal party, began to prepare for a day that would soon be titled "amazing" and "the most beautiful and fun wedding ever," by their guests.
(Photographs courtesy of Benjamin DiCaprio Photography) It was a morning of primping and laughter as the bridal party prepared for the big day ahead; the boys at the groomsmen house and the girls at the bridesmaid house nestled along the coastline. As the guys practiced their lifeguard skills, the girls joined in for bridal party photos. Family photos proceeded at the LouLu Palm Estate that afternoon. This northshore location was a perfect setting for the couple as they have spent many days at the nearby beaches. While Kelley currently lives on Oahu, he is often joined by Christy who travels from her home in Seattle to soak up the Hawaiian sun and sand.
After photos, the bridal party were tucked away to ensure guests would not see them before the ceremony. The groomsmen were found practicing their ukulele skills while Christy reread her vows and toasted with her bridesmaids. With a backdrop of Sunset Beach and pineapples lining the aisle, the ceremony began.
Kanekoa, a Hawaiian ukulele player, serenaded the crowd. The only interruption was the blowing of a conch shell to announce the arrival of the groom and his attendants. Only fitting for this fun spirited couple!
A longtime friend of the couple officiated the heartfelt ceremony. While the bride and groom were busy signing their marriage license, guests were greeted with a traditional Hawaiian Mai Tai as they exited the ceremony and began making their way to the reception.
Once the newlyweds were introduced, it was the start to an evening filled with island dreams, including a rainbow to kick off the cocktail hour. In addition, guests were encouraged to celebrate 'island style' by changing into a pair of flip flops to ensure they could dance late into the night!Christy and Kelley wanted guests to mingle throughout the evening and enjoy a casual dinner. With this request, Downtown created various stations to satisfy each of the guests taste buds. From grilled shutome to kulana strip loin and fingerling potatoes drizzled with a whole grain mustard dressing, it was a meal to die for! Downtown went a step above and beyond when they served this meal as you could hear guests describing all around that this was the best meal they had ever had.

As guests were filling their glasses for toasts, the sunset became a show stopper and one couldn't help but make their way to the beach to watch the sun setting over the Hawaiian water. After the sunset it was time for Christy and Kelley to thank all eighty of their guests for traveling so far to celebrate this day with them. Then it was time to get the dancing started!
Just when the party was in full swing, a wall of fire illuminated the back of the dance floor, surprising the newlyweds and their guests. As guests turned their heads to see what was going on, a group of fire dancers began. Even with the unsuspecting downpour mid performance, guests could not have been more pleased with the performance!
After drying off it was back to the dance floor where Christy and Kelley celebrated with their friends and family. The evening also provided an opportunity for school bragging rights, she from Carnegie Mellon University and he from Dartmouth. However, they did both agree that Duke was the one as that is where the two met while getting their MBA's.
Later that evening the bride and groom cut into their favorite pie, chocolate haupia cream pie, from Ted's Bakery. When the wedding ended that evening, there was a feeling of love that you couldn't help but notice as this was a wedding full of a large community of friends and family who wanted nothing more than to celebrate and enjoy their time with the newlyweds!Congratulations Christy & Kelley!

Banzai Sushi - Oahu Rehearsal Dinner

Banzai Sushi was the spot to be on Friday, September 3! That evening it was home to Christy and Kelley's Rehearsal Dinner, as over 80 guests from around the country had flown in during the past week to celebrate the big day. Banzia Sushi was full of family, and friends dating back from elementary school to graduate school friends where Christy and Kelley had met.
As guests arrived they were treated to an open bar and the sounds of a local reggae band filled the packed house. In the background a slideshow rolled showing pictures of a lifetime of memories of the soon to be husband and wife.
Once seated, the seven course Japanese dinner began. From edamame to maki mono rolls and a finale of "Duke" cupcakes, a tribute to where the couple met, Banzai Sushi pulled off a fabulous event!
Throughout each course laughter ensued as toasts were given by the bridal party and the hosts for the evening, Kelley's parents. It was obvious that while they had both lived around the country and attended various schools, they made the best of friends all around!
The dinner went late into the evening and I left wondering how the wedding could top this evening?

Pink Blossom Events had the great pleasure of working with the Groom's Parents to pull this evening off. In addition, we couldn't have done it without the help of Banzai's owner, Sam!
