Washington Aerospace Training & Research Center Grand Opening

Pink Blossom Events had the honor of coordinating The Washington Aerospace Training & Research Center Grand Opening on June 3, 2010.
A Vision Becomes Reality was the theme of the day as The Washington Aerospace Training & Research Center, in partnership with the Aerospace Futures Alliance (AFA) and Edmonds Community College (EdCC), opened it's doors to the public prior to the start of classes on June 9.
As guests arrived, you could feel the excitement in the air. This facility is the future of the aerospace industry. As noted in the Snohomish County Business Journal, "Last summer, under the direction of Snohomish Country Executive Aaron Reardon, work force leaders in Snohomish County made it a priority to establish a coordinated statewide training center to address the aerospace industry's changing technical requirements. In August of 2009, Edmonds Community College signed an agreement with the Aerospace Futures Alliance of Washington to start a center." After months of hard work, the center is now open and will run 24 hours a day to provide customized training to the state's 650 aerospace companies.

As guests finished filtering into the facility, Linda Lanham, Executive Director of the AFA, kicked off the event with a huge thank you to all of the state and local representatives who lobbied to bring this center to life. She invited many of them to come up and speak about the significance of this facility.

Speakers included:
Aaron Reardon, Snohomish County Executive; Congressman Jay Inslee; Congressman Rick Larsen and Senator Lisa Brown pictured below.Speaker Frank Chopp, WA House of Representatives; Norma Clayton, Vice President of Boeing Learning Training and Development; Larry Loftis - Vice President & General Manager, Everett Site & Boeing 777 Program; and John Theisen, President and CEO, Orion in photograph below. In addition, Mayor Ray Stephanson, City of Everett; Jeff Morris, WA State Representative, 40th District; Dr. Jack Oharah, President of Edmonds Community College and Jerrilee Mosier, VP Edmonds Community College spoke and are pictured below.
In addition, Linda (top photo below) thanked the two additional people who worked countless hours bringing this Vision A Reality; Cyndi Schaeffer, Executive Director, EdCC Business Training Center and Larry Cluphf, Director of Operations, WA Aerospace Training and Research Center (bottom photo below).
After the speakers, guests were invited outside for the sign unveiling where Linda Lanham and Jerrilee Mosier were presented with flowers for all of their work in combining these two forces, the AFA and EdCC, together.

Last but not lease, Governor Christine Gregoire arrived just in time to give a brief speech about the significance of this center. As camera crews filmed, the dignitaries all helped unveil the new sign!
Guests spent the rest of the morning viewing the facility and celebrating with food and cake! With classes beginning today, we are thinking the best is yet to come as we are all looking forward to watching the first graduating class be presented with their diplomas!

This was a great event, thank you! Have you taken any of the college's event planning courses, by chance?

Thank you! I really enjoyed working on the event and am so pleased as to how it turned out. I never did get a chance to take any of the college's event planning courses, but think it is a great way to get your foot in the door!
