Looking for a Unique Christmas Gift?

With only only a little over a week left until Christmas, many of us are still scrambling to find that perfect gift. Rather than going out and spending a lot of money on a gift, why not make something that can last for a couple of days or all year long?
This year I decided to give presents that really mean something. Part of my gifts to my family were actually given out the day after Christmas. I created a personalized advent calendar for each of my family members that would allow them to celebrate a little bit of the holiday season every day in December. For example, my dad enjoys doing puzzles during the winter after work so I purchased a puzzle and filled many of the days with the puzzle pieces, alternating with jokes and candy. For my mom who is an avid gardener, I filled her calendar with garden seeds and coupons for things that we can do together. These coupons included going Christmas shopping or spending a day wine tasting. It may be simple things that I put in their envelopes, but it is something to put a smile on their faces and to remind them that I am thinking about them each day. I also created one for my boyfriend and grandma with things that they enjoy. To create this calendar, I took envelopes and labeled them with the days of the month and filled them with little gifts specific to that individual. When I presented the advent calendar to each person I included a piece of ribbon and clothespins to hang each envelope. The idea is to open an envelope, starting on day one, until you reach the twenty fifth day!
While it may be too late to create an advent calendar, there are many ideas that you can play off of this idea. What about making a personalized Twelve Days of Christmas gift? Starting on Christmas Day, give them a gift that symbolizes the first day of Christmas (A partridge in a pear tree). Then each following day you can give them a gift to represent the second, third, forth, etc....days Christmas. Or rather than giving a partridge in a pear tree, you could create gifts based on the numbers. One of something on day one, two of something on day two of Christmas until you get to day twelve.
Do you have a unique gift that you are giving your family? What about something that will bring you closer this coming New Year? If so, we would love to hear your ideas!

Jordin's Make-A-Wish Party!

Last night Jordin celebrated her Wish surrounded by friends and family at The Rock Wood Fired Pizza & Spirits! Jordin was in smiles all evening as she eagerly awaits her wish this weekend. Jordin and her family are heading off to LA to meet Selena Gomez on the set of Wizards of Waverly Place! I have to admit that I wish I can go as Jordin and her family will have a once in a lifetime opportunity!
A big thank you to The Rock who had generously donated the pizza party. In addition, to Mischell of Free Cakes for Kids who created this one of a kind Selena Gomez cake!

A December trip to Leavenworth!

Winter is here! Last week I took an overnight trip to Leavenworth and am now officially in the holiday spirit. The smell of fresh winter air, sunny skies spotlighting the mountain snow and holiday festivities about...a December trip to Leavenworth is a true delight! Josie Weiss of JW Events and I arrived in Leavenworth last Tuesday afternoon and checked into our rooms at the Best Western Icicle Inn. After a quick lunch, we were given a tour by their sales and catering manager, Jeanine. Icicle Inn can accommodate both an outdoor or indoor wedding, however, we were most impressed by their accommodations. From standard rooms to three bedroom condos, Icicle Inn is a top choice to lodge all of your guests wherever your event may be held.
With our afternoon free, we gladly strolled through town looking at all the shops and stopping in at a few winery tasting rooms which are spotting up around town. We had a great time visiting the Icicle Ridge Winery Tasting Room and the Willow's Crest / Pasek Cellars Tasting Room. We also discovered a hidden gem in the back of a gift shop called Schocolat! Owners Damian and Susie make handmade chocolates which are delectable! A fun addition to treat any of your guests!
As the sun began to set, we headed to Sleeping Lady Mountain Resort for our tour. The drive was breathtaking, and lucky for us we came just in time to see the famous Sleeping Lady mountain profile before the sun went all the way down.

Guests at Sleeping Lady can enjoy the natural setting of the Cascade Mountains and Icicle Creek without sacrificing the comforts of home. Whether you're looking for an adventure or simply to slow down and relax, Sleeping Lady offers many indoor and outdoor amenities to choose from. Currently, Sleeping Lady is in the process of a $1.75 million upgrade which will push it to pure luxury! Sleeping Lady Mountain Resort offers couples and their guests an uncommon wedding experience. From outdoor settings on the banks of the Icicle Creek, to indoor spaces that reflect the essence of the Northwest, Sleeping Lady helps craft a truly unique wedding. They can accommodate an event for up to 175 along with accommodations so guests never have to leave the resort! All accommodations are all inclusive and include breakfast, lunch and dinner at the Kingfisher Dining Lodge. Once our tour ended, we were lead to Dinner at Kingfisher to enjoy one of their raved about meals! Kingfisher Dining Lodge features gourmet meals created with the freshest local ingredients, many from their own two-acre organic garden. Meal's are chef's choice, but there are always plenty of options to satisfy all of your guests palates. I am looking forward to a return trip!

We awoke Wednesday morning to a gorgeous sunrise and frost abound as we enjoyed our complimentary breakfast at Icicle Inn. After breakfast we headed out to Destination Leavenworth for a tour of some of their venues. Destination Leavenworth manages over 40 vacation homes, cabins, condos, and lodges, making it easy to find exactly what you are looking for. We began with a tour of Snowgrass Lodge. Snowgrass is known as one of the top places for lodging in Leavenworth, but Josie and I agreed that it holds that title for events as well! From an indoor space to comfortable hold 50 or a backyard to host 150, the possibilities are endless! In addition, to weddings, Snowgrass Lodge is the perfect place to host a family reunion. We then jumped in our cars and drove down the road to their brand new rental home, White Water Lodge. Inside you can hear the sounds of the Wenatchee River which is literally in your back yard. With 6 bedrooms and 6.5 bathrooms, this is a perfect addition to add to your lodging needs in conjunction with an event at Snowgrass Lodge!

On our way out of town we stopped by to say hi to our friends at Mountain Springs Lodge. The resort is special to Josie as this is were she held her own wedding. I also got a chance to experience Mountain Springs Lodge last spring and am always waiting for an opportunity to visit again! To read about my experience at Mountain Springs Lodge click here.

As we left Leavenworth we were sad to go as we had enjoyed our stay! A return trip is already on the books!

Engagment Season!

The holidays mark the beginning of engagement season. To celebrate all of the proposals going on, I thought I would share the story of how Dan proposed to his girlfriend Jessie during their trip to Australia this past September.

"We were on vacation in Australia and had taken a ferry over to Manly Beach to explore. We spent the morning riding bikes up to the National Park and stopped off at a small beach. I was happily beach combing for shells and taking pictures when Dan asked me to go stand closer to the water for a photo op. Instead, he handed me his camera and said that Kona (our dog) had sent him some special pictures for me. Totally confused, I grabbed his camera and there was a picture of Kona with a sign that read "Dad has a question for you." That's when Dan got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Still in shock, I gave him my right hand but quickly switched to my left as he put the ring on my finger. After a quick phone call to my mom, we hopped back on our bikes and back to Manly for celebratory drinks and lunch. My new ring made for a pretty good souvenir of our trip!" ~ Jessie

Congratulations Jessie and Dan!

Holiday Party Ideas

In case you missed Pink Blossom Events December Newsletter, here are some of my favorite ideas for those of you looking for a new idea for your annual holiday party. Here are three of my favorite parties that I have hosted.

Christmas Pictionary Party

Last year it was a boys vs. girls affair as I planned a Christmas Pictionary Party. Guests were asked to dress in either red (boys) or green (girls) not knowing that they would be divided into teams based on the color of their shirts. Using a regular pictionary board, I created custom categories, everywhere from Christmas characters to Christmas songs. We used two dry erase boards to draw the pictures on. It just so happens the girls dominated the game! In addition there was a Christmas appetizer contest, honoring the most creative appetizer with a dancing Santa prize.

Gingerbread House Night
If you are looking for a more casual evening, invite your friends and family over for a Gingerbread House making night. The host provides a spread of holiday treats and hot cocoa as guests use graham crackers and frosting to create their houses. Make sure to supply plenty of colorful candies to decorate the houses. A simple but fun evening to ring in the holidays!

White Elephant Party

This year I am hosting a White Elephant Party with a specific theme. Guests have been asked to bring a gift "to entertain yourself or your family while you are trapped at home with the relatives." Some other White Elephant themes include jewelry exchange, gift card exchange or a Christmas ornament exchange.

Still not inspired? Here are some other party ideas that may get you in the holiday spirit; an ugly sweater party, baking or cookie exchange, gift wrapping night, wine or beer tasting party, eggnog party, wreath making night, family game night, Christmas movie night...

Did we miss your favorite holiday party? We would love to hear your ideas. If you send us a truly unique party, we will feature your party on the Pink Blossom Events Blog this month.

Want to be included on Pink Blossom Events mailing list? Send us an email at [email protected]!

Growing Older But Not Up!

...was the theme Saturday night at John's Surprise 60th Birthday Party! Guests sporting their favorite tropical attire gathered at Uptown Hideaway while John was on his way to a "nice early birthday dinner" with friends who had come to town for Thanksgiving, or so he thought. Little did he know that his family had been planning this party for months and family members had flown in that morning just to surprise him. As John entered his "early birthday dinner" to a loud SURPRISE, one could say he was a bit shocked and at a lost for words.

John's early birthday dinner could not have been any better. From a fajita bar dinner catered by Twelve Baskets to the live Band Bob, John was beaming from ear to ear. Little touches of his love for sun, relaxation, sail boating and the tropics scattered the room. The "guest book" plate was signed by guests during the evening and later put in a kiln to use.
Even the cake and cupcakes created by Tiers of Delight followed the theme with a sailboat and palm tree.
A special thank you to the AA Party Rentals for providing all of the rentals!

Happy 60th Birthday!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Have you thought about what you are thankful for this Thanksgiving?

While most of us don't think about it between a busy day spent watching football and the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade (I have promised myself I will be there someday!) or preparing that evenings feast, we have a lot to be thankful for. Of course, we can all make a list of things that we want and need, but I believe this quote mentions something that we should all ponder.

"If you haven't all the things you want,
be grateful for the things you don't have
that you wouldn't want." ~unknown

As you sit around the dining room table this Thanksgiving, take the time to reflect what you are truly thankful for in life. While you may not have that fifty foot yacht docked out in front of your Mediterranean villa, you do have a roof over your head and a home filled with nourishing food and family. As we speak I am working on granting two wishes through Make-A-Wish. To be able to help these families who have been given something that they did not want, makes me appreciate the things that I do have.

I know that I can speak from experience that today I am truly blessed. My business is growing, I have a healthy family which I could not have said these past couple of Thanksgivings, and a supportive group of friends and family. To top it off, my brother in-law just returned home from another seven month deployment in Afghanistan, just in time for Thanksgiving!

While that quote may be a perfect reminder of what we are thankful for, I think this quote accurately depicts what most of us experience at the Thanksgiving table!

On December 5 and 6 Woodinville wineries will open their doors for the annual Saint Nicholas Day Open House. This signature event provides patrons with the opportunity to sample and purchase wines from 11am to 4pm.

Meet The Biscottis

Events On The Edge sure does know how to entertain a crowd! Last night I attended the hysterical Meet The Biscotti's at Parlor Live Comedy Club. Meet The Biscotti's is an interactive mafia musical comedy theater show loaded with audience participation, improvisation and music. The show revolves around the comical exploits of the Biscotti Family who have recently relocated to the Pacific Northwest from Bayonne, New Jersey and taken over! If you think your group or company is dysfunctional, just wait until you meet the Biscotti's! As the night progresses, you get to know the Biscotti's, learn special survival 'skills' like how to perform a proper hit, or even how to escape FBI surveillance. There is no other show in town like it!
Meet The Biscotti's has one last performance on Sunday, December 6th. Make sure to get your tickets before it is too late!
Events On The Edge is a small event company providing interactive entertainment for public and corporate clients. A unique idea to add some some fun to your next event!

A day on the Eastside!

Everywhere I go I run across unique venues and business owners who are the backbones to the event industry. I spent a day visiting some of these places in Redmond with Josie Weiss of JW Events.

Our first stop was The Catering Company where we were treated to a delicious lunch. Beau, Marty and Gregg of The Catering Company sat down with us to share some of their specialties. We feasted on caesar salad, homemade fococia bread, chicken marsala, green beans, rice with apricots and a sampling of their desserts while they shared with us their experiences from the past twelve years of business. Their main focus has been in the corporate world, where they have served crowds up to five thousand, however, they have worked on just about every type of event since they opened. What a wonderful group of staff they have!

With a full stomach, we headed over to Big Picture in Redmond Town Center. From the moment you walk into Big Picture, you know you are going to have a good time! The plush couches and chandeliers hanging on the ceiling set the mood for a swanky evening! Big Picture was created with the belief that hotel meeting space is boring and that there is nothing really special about going to a multi-plex theatre. From business meetings, to private movie screenings and wedding receptions, guests 21 and over are able to experience the star treatment! Enjoy martini olives that are stuffed with real blue cheese and fresh popped popcorn served in Champagne buckets with white cheddar cheese sprinkled on top while relaxing in the TempurPedic theatre seats. Redmond Big Picture features one theatre with seating of up to 150 and a Q Club. In addition to hosting an event at Big Picture, why not stop by for a movie any night of the week. Ticket prices range from $7 to $11!

Our last stop in Redmond was at Gold Class Cinemas, also located in Redmond Town Center. At Gold Class, you can relax and enjoy fine wine and a delicious meal all with a press of a button in your plush reclining chair. Their seasonal menu provides a wide range of dishes that can be enjoyed while watching the latest movie. Gold Class Cinemas caterers to the 21 and over crowd, however, they make sure to offer options for those under 21. This includes a theatre specifically for all ages and a weekly Sunday Brunch that has become a family favorite of locals. For those who are looking for a unique venue to entertain clients or host a private party, Gold Class is the perfect option. From tailored menus to the first in entertainment options, this is the place to wow your clients, friends and family!

Our evening ended at Parlor Live Comedy Club in Bellevue. From the first act to the last, we were rolling with laughter! I would highly recommend an evening out at one of their shows. In addition to their Comedy Club, Parlor Live features Trivia Night on Tuesdays', Flirt! Singles Nite featuring Rockaraoke every Wednesday and many other events sure to keep you entertained. And if that doesn't satisfy your needs, the Parlor Collection houses a Billiards area and Lounge. Do you have a favorite place that Pink Blossom should visit? We would love to hear your comments and suggestions!

Wedding Network USA Launch Party!

When Jennifer Taylor, President of Wedding Network USA, and Cherie Ronning, Founder & Executive Director of Wedding Network USA work together, you know something spectacular is going to take place. That is exactly what happened at the Seattle Launch Party of Wedding Network USA on November 4th hosted by The Columbia Tower Club. Their was a wave of excitement felt throughout the room that evening as we were introduced to the new association. The night turned out to be a huge success.

As Tania Shepard of Azzura Photography mentioned, "it is so fun to mix and mingle with our wedding friends, some of whom we've known for over a decade. One of the best things about being a part of the community is all the felt like 'Cheers' because almost everyone knows each other from different events and connections. (Warm fuzzies all around!)". I too resonate Tania's comments as I was excited to share the enthusiasm and buzz that this association is bringing to the wedding community.
Being the very first founding member, I am excited to share this great association with other wedding professionals around. I was even given a crown that evening since I was the first member...thanks Jen and Cherie!

Take a peak below at some of the photos that Azzura Photography snapped that evening. To see all of the pictures follow this link.

If you are interested in hosting an upcoming Wedding Network USA meeting contact BreeAnn at [email protected].
The mission of Wedding Network USA is to focus on industry businesses. Their goal is to give wedding professionals a variety of opportunities for professional development through the sharing of business expertise, educational topics and networking.
